DSC03270Founded by Joanne Hickox, Seniors on a Mission mobilizes senior volunteers, lovingly called “Senior Saints,” on daily “mission trips” to meet the needs of local nonprofit organizations. Seniors on a Mission facilitates 120 of these trips each year, tackling projects ranging from addressing envelopes to stuffing race bags. Last year alone, these busy volunteers stuffed 90,000 bags for charity races!

The volunteer hours given by Seniors on a Mission have helped nonprofits in difficult economic times by supplementing staff efforts when budget cuts have resulted in downsizing. In just one day, a team of “Senior Saints” can come in and achieve a significant amount of work.
With 375 active volunteers, Seniors on a Mission donated 12,000 hours to 36 local nonprofits in 2012, and have contributed over $270,000 in value to our community.

With the mission of “loving and encouraging live-alone-at-home senior citizens, enabling them to live longer, healthier, more grace-and-purpose-filled, independent lives,” Seniors on a Mission not only benefits senior citizens but strengthens our entire community.

Seniors on a Mission will be presented the HandsOn Faith Award at Celebrate!GOOD on April 18, 2013.  Learn how to join us at www.handsonjacksonville.org/celebrate
